The Colts announced Monday the team will start a memorial scholarship in honor of linebacker Edwin Jackson, who died February 4 after his Uber was struck by a drunk driver.

A team release stated owner Jim Irsay has announced a $25,000 gift to establish the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship. "We are all better people for having known him, and we already miss him so much".

"This scholarship will honor Edwin's memory and his determination, work ethic and character", Irsay said in a statement. "My family and the entire Colts organization are proud to have been associated with Edwin, and we are honored to help continue his legacy in the future".

The scholarship will be given annually to qualified students who apply for it.

Tax-deductible donations can now be made to the scholarship fund.

Jackson and Monroe were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Irsay also sent condolences to the family of Jeffrey Monroe of Avon, the Uber driver who lost his life in the same accident.

He paid for Jackson's memorial service in Atlanta on Monday, and several members of the Colts' organization were in attendance to pay their respects to their fallen teammate.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jeffrey's family and friends during these hard days", Irsay said in Monday's statement.

Edwin Jackson and Uber driver Jeffery Monroe were both struck by a drunk driver while standing outside of a vehicle on the side of the road early last Sunday morning.
