Dominic Thiem, Alijaz Bedene advance to Argentina Open final

Monfils and Thiem were set to face each other in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open semifinals earlier this season, but Thiem was forced to withdraw due to a fever.

Austrian Thiem, victor of this tournament in 2016, will be a strong favourite to claim his ninth ATP World Tour singles title when he takes on Bedene, who beat home favourite Federico Delbonis 6-2 2-6 6-1 in the other semi.

Thiem was totally dominant on his first-serve points, winning 23 of 27. The victory dashed home fans' hopes of an Argentine champion."I played really well in the first set but I dropped a little bit in the second", Bedene said. I'm serving pretty well; not everything depends on my serve but it helps.

Slovenian Bedene reached his third ATP World Tour showdown after blasting down 15 aces and breaking five times to topple the world number 70. Bedene also upset No.5 seed Diego Schwartzman, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. 6-1 on Saturday to set up an Argentina Open final against Slovenia's Alijaz Bedene. "I just want to do my best tomorrow and see what happens.".
