The child had heard the door open before sending the dog after the man, reported KLKN.

A pit bull is being called a hero after protecting a nine year-old boy during an attempted burglary.

His mom left the boy home alone Wednesday while she went to pick up his siblings from school.

"It seemed like he wanted me because when he saw me, he just slowly walked toward me and he didn't look at anything else".

"He started chasing me upstairs and I called my dog down and they started to fight when my dog got downstairs", he said.

His pit bull, Baby Girl, tried to attack the man in the Shane's defense and then chased him out of the home.

"I was upstairs when it happened", said Shane Shafer, a 4th grader.

The home is at 30th and T streets, Lincoln Police Department spokesperson Angela Sands told the Lincoln Journal Star.

After the burglar was gone, the boy went to a neighbor's house and called his mom, who alerted police, Sands said.

No arrests have been made in the case, according to the World-Herald. "Because, it was only me home and I didn't know who it was and the only protection I had was my dogs".
