Billed as a "flagship device", the Cat S61 predictably lacks all your conventional high-end Android handset specs, from Qualcomm's latest hero chip to dual cameras, a super-sharp screen or trendy aspect ratio. Perhaps the 5.2-incher's best marketing description is that of the world's "most advanced tool yet to help get the job done". The S61 also supports live-streaming of thermal images taken from its camera, courtesy the MyFLIR app.

The Cat S61 also packs a 5.2in 1080p display and will ship running a largely stock version of Google's Android OS. Vehicle diagnostics, asphalt monitoring, and higher temperature equipment monitoring are now possible with the Cat S61, in addition to the many traditional use cases that include detecting heat loss around windows and doors, spotting moisture and missing insulation, identifying over-heating electrical appliances and overloaded circuitry, and seeing in complete darkness or through obscurants like smoke or light fog.

It further bears an indoor air quality sensor from Sensirion to alert users on high levels of indoor air pollutants (Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs) in their working environment. The sensor also reads humidity levels and temperatures.

The headlining feature of the Cat S61 is the upgraded FLIR thermal imaging camera, which now can detect an expanded range of temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius up to 400 degrees Celsius.

The Cat S61 also comes with laser assisted distance measurement which can measure point-to-point distances up to 10m, then calculate area, and switch between Metric and Imperial measurement. The data is saved within the image for estimating alternative measurement and to implement adjustments without returning to the site. The Cat S61 is certainly designed for use by anyone who works in conditions that would simply destroy the average consumer smartphone. It has an IP68 rating for dustproofing and water resistance, which means it can be submerged in up to 3 meters of water for up to an hour. It is also water resistant up to 3m for 60 minutes (including salt water) and has Mil-Spec 810G credentials. "The Cat S60 proved to be an incredible vehicle for introducing more people to the benefits thermal imaging and we look forward to expanding that further with the Cat S61".

It will be unveiled at MWC 2018 but won't be available for purchase until Q2 with a €899/£799/$999 price tag. The Cat DNA is found in every Cat mobile phone and accessory offered by Bullitt Mobile Ltd. and provides boundless experience with robust mobility.
