Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov won the silver medal at the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea's PyeongChang on Saturday.

Andrey Larkov (OAR) edged out Canada's Alex Harvey and Martin Johnsrud Sundby of Norway to clinch the bronze.

Two of the three Russian athletes who swept the podium in Sochi, victor Alexander Legkov and runner-up Maxim Vylegzhanin, had their medals stripped from them before being reinstated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2017.

Instead, Bolshunov took up the chase after Niskanen, passing Poltoranin at around the 30-kilometer mark and blazing after the leading Finn, with the trailing pack now more than a minute behind. The victor of the race, Finland's Iivo Niskanen, came in 18.7 seconds ahead of Bolshunov.

With just one kilometre to go and with Bolshunov taking the lead for several kilometres, Niskanen switched to fresh skis - and the rest is history.
