Bharathiraja who directed her in three films recalls that she was around 14 when she acted in his 16 Vayathinile. Actor Kamal Haasan tweeted, "Have witnessed Sridevi's life from an adolescent teenager to the magnificent lady she became". She starred opposite all the leading heroes (NTR, Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna), commanded a fee on par with them, and consistently delivered hits in all the languages.

Kamal Haasan, who collaborated with Sridevi in almost 27 films, including iconic projects such as Moondram Pirai (Sadma),Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu, and Vazhve Mayam to name a few, has released a teary-eyed video message about his working experience with the legendary actress.

"Sridevi's astounding talent was not luck". So I am mentally more prepared than her. "And every step of it, she worked for", said Haasan.

Haasan also stressed on the last time he met Sridevi on the red carpet of an award show in Mumbai, where they spent a jolly time together.

"I'm shocked and very disturbed. I'm sure she is ready for it". If she were alive, there was a good chance the audiences would have seen at least one watershed Friday with both mother and daughter having a release opposite each other. She has acted in nearly all the languages in India and has done 27 films with me. The moments we had together were nearly always in film shootings. We were working so continuously that our personal lives were on the periphery. The kind of dedication she had matched mine. So, it's no wonder that we were fond of each other. After a long hiatus, Malayalis could get to see her in Devaragam in 1996, directed by Bharathan, which set yet another milestone in her career. Sadma song rings in my ears now. "Haan. let me tell you that", said Sridevi, laughing. The goofy characters she essayed on screen, especially in Mr. India and ChaalBaaz, are her, she has said. No words to express the grief.my deepest condolences to the family. Sridevi's debut as a lead in Hindi films began with Solva Sawan in 1978 and she never looked back. "It was fun. I love working with acrylics and oil". Some other day, we were in a party. Neelam was a great fan and wanted to meet her, but was apprehensive about approaching an established star like Sridevi. "That poor child is gonna miss all that".

Sridevi grew up to be known for not just her ability for slip into myriad roles - whether the double role in "Chaalbaaz", as a woman with retrograde amnesia in "Sadma", a shape-shifting woman in "Nagina", a goofy crime journalist in "Mr. India", the warm mother act in "English Vinglish" or the fierce and revengeful mom in "Mom" - but also for her expressive eyes, sheer comic timing and her fluid dancing skills, all of which made her a director's delight.

In Tamil, she was a regular in the films of K Balachander, Bharathi Raja and Y Mahendra. Though in the end, Kamal Haasan did cartwheel his way to winning several awards, Sridevi's Viji, as someone who mentally regresses to the state of a child, was a revelation. She has been watching me, and knows what she is getting into. "I'm like that with family and friends".
