The fabulous trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were once again on the scoring sheet with the Egyptian flourishing as the stand out performer in the clash.

Liverpool's breakthrough came just before the half-hour as Salah delivered the cross for Can to head home from a corner.

Mohamed Salah scored his 31st goal of the season as Liverpool thumped West Ham 4-1 at home to go second in the Premier League table.

It wasn't all that long ago that Liverpool were languishing mid-table and looking nearly certain to fall short in the race for Champions League football, but as we creep towards the business end of the season, the Reds have leapfrogged bitter rivals Manchester United in to second place after sweeping aside West Ham United at Anfield.

The goal was also Salah's 20th scored with his left foot this season - no player in the Premier League has ever scored more in a single campaign.

Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, admitting he himself would have struggled to deal with the pressure of an FA investigation.

Liverpool are now a point clear of rivals Manchester United, who host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

"It's nothing decided this season, we are in a good position but a good position only gives you the basis for the next few games and now we have to use it as a group - players, coaches, manager and crowd", he said.

The Reds boss said: "I am really happy we did not have to play immediately after the Porto game because it would have been quite hard from this really big result to get the concentration for the really hard job against West Ham". It's all about doing the right thing in the right moment.

Saturday's Premier League games saw more record-breaking brilliance from Mo Salah, a four-goal thriller at the Vitality Stadium and plenty more thrilling action.

"Flexibility, being fluent, depends on all the players around", Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said, highlighting the movement and work rate of his attackers.

"Yes he is doing well, he scored from not the biggest chance we had in the game".

"Al Ahly are the Club of the Century in Africa, and they are one of the most important clubs in the Middle East and in Africa". It was a nice goal. Taking the lead in the first half, the Anfield outfit took the centre stage and for yet another instance showcased their brilliant attacking prowess, scoring thrice in the second half.
