The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flew its Rustom-2 drone at its Aeronautical Test Range in Chitradurga district of Karnataka.

Rustom-2 can conduct sustained surveillance and can carry weapons along with surveillance equipment. All the parameters regarding the test were normal, hence the test was branded as being successful.

"This flight assumes significance due to the fact that this is the first flight in user configuration with higher power engine", a DRDO statement read. This is another example of the swiftly developing power of the country under the Modi rule, and whose various pronouncements of Make in India are finally giving way to very admirable results.

The DRDO also posted a video of the test flight of Rustom 2 on its Twitter handle. Rustom 2 drone is a medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle, developed on the lines of predator drones of the United States.

Modern warfare is heavily dependent on drones and India had deployed its imported drones effectively during the surgical strikes it carried out across the Line of Control in Pakistan in September 2016.

Secretary Deptt of Defence (R&D) and Chairman DRDO S. Christopher, Director General of Aeronautical System CP Ramanarayanan, DG Electronics and Communication Systems J Manjula along with senior scientists witnessed the flight and congratulated Rustom team.
