The suitcase containing the severed head was found at a different lodging facility in Osaka. But the camera did not capture the woman leaving, the investigators said. Her complaint sparked a police investigation.

The man was arrested on February 22 on suspicion of confining the woman from Sanda, Hyogo Prefecture, in the apartment in Osaka, which he was using as a vacation rental during a stay of about one week.

The unnamed woman was last seen walking with an American man who was arrested on Thursday, The Star reported.

The man has reportedly denied all the allegations against him.

Video footage shows the suspect repeatedly going in and out of the building alone with a travel bag, the sources said.

The woman was reported missing by her mother on February 17, after she wrote on Instagram was going to "meet Jay", which is believed to be a reference to the American man she was seen with, the Times reported. He was arrested in Nara Prefecture.

The man is being held on a charge of confining the woman in Higashinari Ward in Osaka at a condominium rented out to tourists.

Body parts other than the head have not been found.
