A Brooklyn femme fatale with a deadly past was busted for poisoning a look-alike friend with a tainted piece of cheesecake in a foiled plot to steal her identity, authorities charged. Knowing that her victim was fond of candies, especially cheesecake, Nasyrova brought a cake laced with phenazepam, a potent tranquilizer.

"The woman ate the cheesecake, fell ill and lay down", Brown said.

The following day, a friend found Tsvyk unconscious in her bed, "dressed in lingerie with pills scattered around her body as if the woman had attempted to kill herself", Brown said. Before passing out, the woman's last memory is of seeing the defendant sitting beside her inside her home, according to prosecutors. When she woke up, they say, she noticed that her passport and employment card were gone, as well as cash and a gold ring.

The 42-year-old suspect was initially arrested in March 2017 for the 2016 crime and arraigned on 28 February.

"This is a freakish and twisted crime that could have resulted in the death of a Queens woman, whose only fault was that she shared similar features with the defendant", said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

If convicted of the USA charges, Nasyrova could face up to 25 years behind bars. She was arrested in March a year ago. Her lawyer Barbara Byrne has refused to comment on the case.

The pills contained the same drug as well, Mr Brown said. "The defendant has been apprehended and now faces a long term of incarceration".

Nasyrova moved to New York City in 2014 from Russian Federation to avoid authorities after allegedly killing 54-year-old Alla Aleksenko, according to the New York Daily News. Court documents suggest that the woman fled Russian Federation where she was wanted for the murder of a 54-year-old woman.

Federal officials tested the remaining cheesecake stored in a container and confirmed that the treat was laced with the tranquilizer.

She denied those charges in the CBS interview.

Nasyrova faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
