'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Reboot Just Needs Joss Whedon, Says Fox Head

"And until Joss decides it's time, it won't happen". It is fun to remember that, technically, Buffy is now a Disney princess in the aftermath of the Fox/Disney acquisition, but that means the Fox network wouldn't be the default home for it. "When Joss decides it's time, we'll do it". With numerous television shows getting the reboot treatment, including other supernatural hits like Charmed and Roswell, a Buffy reboot would definitely be a welcome addition to any network lineup. Newman's comments stemmed from a conversation about the current trend towards rebooting beloved shows, giving hope to Buffy fans that they may once again see The Slayer on the small screen.

But Newman said, "Reboots aren't actually a focus for us".

The reason why Joss Whedon created Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in order to play with traditional horror tropes and turn someone who'd normally be a damsel in distress into the heroine.

"[Buffy] is probably the most ripe show we have for bringing back". While Newman didn't confirm a reboot is coming or even in the beginning planning stages, it's clear that it would have a home if Whedon made a decision to step back in to the world of Sunnydale.

Do you want to see a Sunnydale High class of 1999 20 year reunion next year?

Either direction seems fraught with peril, unfortunately, and ultimately not as interesting as letting Whedon, still one of TV's most iconic showrunners, develop a fresh new idea.

If a revival does happen, it does call into question what happens to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics, which continued the show's story after the season 7 finale. Buffy Summers: cheerleader, blonde, valley girl turned savior of the universe. But after seeing how awesome and ready to kick ass everyone looked at the Buffy 20th reunion a year ago, one can't help but wonder just what a proper Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion would look like.

And really, do we need more "Buffy"?

According to a March 13 report by Deadline, Newman opened up about the possibility of bringing Buffy The Vampire Slayer back to television.
