Google Assistant for iPad cranks up Siri's competition

Google's iOS app Google Assistant officially added native iPad support today, bringing the tablet's number of major Siri competitors up to three.

With the press of a button, the application will answer questions and retrieve information from the internet, but that's just the start. This iPad version follows last May's launch of Google Assistant on iPhone.

Google Assistant is available immediately on the App Store.

Google also points out that with multitasking in iOS 11, you can take advantage of that larger screen size in other ways. Like all digital assistants except Siri, the app must be manually opened on the iPad and can not be summoned in the background as on Android devices.

Is Google Assistant on iPad really necessary? Other than that, it should be the same Assistant you know and love, capable of controlling your smart home, checking weather, calendar events, plus everything else.

So, if you're an Apple user who happens to enjoy Google's services, you now have more options when it comes to using Google Assistant on iOS.
