One man has been injured after a helicopter crashed at Perth Airport.

Connor Wojtowicz, 23, who lives at the airport, was among the first on the scene.

A photo of the helicopter demonstrates the severely harmed create close to Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) base.

'I heard it take off and it didn't sound comfortable - then there was a blast'. The airfield's fire engine was quickly on the scene dealing with the spilt fuel.

The privately-owned helicopter crashed around 10.30am on Tuesday during ground tests. Firefighters used a fire-retardant foam to cover the stricken aircraft.

Police Scotland will launch an investigation into the incident.

"Paramedics worked with @Scotambservice colleagues before the sole occupant was taken to hospital with leg injuries".

The helicopter is believed to be used for training purposes and is not one of the air ambulances, which are predominantly yellow.

Eyewitnesses said the helicopter went into a spin while it was on the ground, before ending up on its side.
