To put Cage's fandom into perspective, his son is named Kal-El, and he once owned a pricey and rare issue of the comic series that he eventually sold for $2.1 million.

Cage was once cast as the Man of Steel when director Tim Burton was in charge of a film called Superman Lives, which has become the subject of some fascination since it never saw the light of day. Furious at this injustice, he takes the other Titans to Hollywood in the hopes of getting them the big-screen treatment they deserve. And now, in what is perhaps the greatest casting joke/cameo in superhero history (sorry, Stan Lee), they've gotten Nicolas Cage to be their Superman.

In the latest bit of news to be filed under "better late than never", none other than Nicolas Cage has been confirmed to voice Superman in the upcoming animated flick Teen Titans Go!

Cage joins singer/songwriter Halsey, who is playing Wonder Woman, and rapper Lil Yachty, who is playing Green Lantern, as the first of several A-List celebrities that will join the cast, according to USA Today.

"Teen Titans GO! to the Movies" finds our egocentric, wildly satirical Super Heroes in their first feature film extravaganza-a fresh, gleefully clever, kid-appropriately crass and tongue-in-cheek play on the superhero genre, complete with musical numbers.

The film opens in theaters on July 27 and follows the Teen Titans, Robin (Scott Menville), Starfire (Hynden Walch), Raven (Tara Strong), Cyborg (Khary Payton) and Beast Boy (Greg Cipes), trying to get their big pop-culture break by seeking out a popular Hollywood director (Kristen Bell). Outside of Superman Lives, Cage hasn't had much luck with comic book films in general.

In Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, Robin realizes superheroes have received films before they have. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream.
