However, there are many tech companies in the USA and the number of cases of discrimination and harassment are much more.

Women at Microsoft working in US-based technical jobs filed 238 internal complaints about gender discrimination or sexual harassment between 2010 and 2016, according to court filings made public on Monday.

Paintiffs are reportedly pushing for a class action lawsuit to cover 8,000 women working at Microsoft, who claim the company systematically denied pay raises and promotions to females. Microsoft denied the claims.

Attorneys of plaintiffs have been making moves to make Microsoft lawsuits a class action. According to details in unreleased court fillings, out of 118 gender discrimination complaints filed by female employees at Microsoft, only one was regarded "founded" by the company.

Attorneys for the women called the number of complaints "shocking" in the court filings and the response by Microsoft's investigations team "lackluster". So, it is unclear how many actual complaints have been filed and how it compares with competitors of Microsoft. Moreover, the firm spends almost $55 million every year for promotion of diversity and inclusion.

However, Microsoft's opposition to the motion said that it spends $55m a year on "innovative diversity and inclusion programs".

Microsoft said the plaintiffs can not cite one example of a pay or promotion problem in which Microsoft's investigations team should have found a violation of company policy, but did not. In these allegations, companies implemented common civil litigation tactics to keep information about sexual misconduct allegations private. Microsoft has argued that the number of women's Human Resources complaints must be kept under wraps because publicizing the outcomes could dissuade others from reporting any and all future issues.

Furthermore, the plaintiffs alleged there isn't a monitor for repeat offenders or retaliation against the complainant, and Redmond doesn't mandate training in discrimination, anti-harassment or complaint handling.
