A new report from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation breaks down halth factors in almost every county in the United States. These rankings use specific data related to health outcomes and health factors to evaluate community health nationwide. Raquel Bournhonesque, a County Health Rankings public health representative, said counties often move up or down the list relative to how other counties perform.

Sullivan County remained next-to-last in the state, with health outcomes remaining the same as previous year at 61st.

"I knew Broome County could do better. There is still much work to be done incorporating healthy behaviors where we live, learn, work and play." said Jason Garnar, Broome County Executive. "We need to make it easy for our community to live healthy", added Garnar.

County is 19th Gloucester ranks 15th and Burlington is the ninth-healthiest.

On health behaviors, Nicollet County improved from 30th to 12th. Rather than examine overall death rates, the County Health Rankings look at the premature death rate, deaths that occur among people under the age of 75 (Length of Life).

Identical to previous year, the report marks as strengths Allen County's low adult physical inactivity (24 percent); access to exercise opportunities (85 percent); preventable hospital stays (52 per 1,000 Medicare enrollees); and adults with some college education (66 percent). "This is a credit to our community leaders and residents coming together to find solutions".

Just like we get yearly check-ups.

Hart said the city is continuing to address the social determinants of health, and that it is making strides to address some of the factors of poor health outcomes, such as teen pregnancy.

A county's health factors are comprised of wide-ranging inputs: They include traditional health barometers, such as obesity and smoking rates, as well as social and economic standards, such as child poverty and high school graduation rates.

Also, Clinical Care in Broome County received high marks for 2018. "But it doesn't matter how good our clinical care is if our community members can't access it".

Counties in south-central Minnesota varied greatly in new health rankings released today, even as they shared certain areas of concern. The full rankings are available at www.countyhealthrankings.org.

Those gathering the data behind the rankings say the reports can be used to target areas of improvement in communities lagging behind the rest of the state.

Teams include physical activity, healthy meals, tobacco prevention, mental and spiritual health, disease prevention and worksite wellness.

A West Michigan county was named the healthiest in the state by a recent study. These health gaps are largely influenced by differences in opportunities that disproportionately affect people of color, such as access to quality education, jobs, and safe, affordable housing.

Health outcomes include premature deaths, which in Allen rose from an estimated 7,200 per 100,000 residents previous year to 7,500 per 100,000.

Pennsylvania counties range from 4 to 11 percent of babies born with low birth weight, the report says.

"This year's county health rankings highlight the tremendous health disparities that persist in Georgia by zip code, race and ethnicity, " said Marsha Davis, an associate dean at the University of Georgia's College of Public Health.
