"I will have Google and Apple taken to the Commercial Court of Paris for abusive trade practices, because I believe that Google and Apple, no matter how powerful they are, can not treat our start-ups and our developers the way they are doing today".

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire speaks during a news conference after a National Council of Industry at the Bercy Finance Ministry in Paris, France, February 26, 2018. "I consider that Google and Apple, as powerful as they are, shouldn't treat our start-ups and our developers in the way they do today".

He said in particular that the two USA giants imposed financial conditions on French app developers and gathered data on their use, while also saying that "both can unilaterally modify contracts".

Spokespeople for Apple France and Google France did not immediately respond to calls and messages from Reuters seeking comment.

Mr Le Maire said the fines could amount to "million of euros".
