While Kirk Cousins' agent said, "No final decisions have been made", the Vikings had on the table a three-year, $84 million contract that was fully guaranteed, would make him the highest-paid quarterback in the National Football League and seemed too lucrative to turn down. Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles' new extension, three years and $54 million with $26.5 million guaranteed, appears to be an apt comparison. Given that three of the team's four quarterbacks are heading for free agency, they had to sign a player.

The Vikings won the NFC North comfortably, finishing well ahead of the Green Bay Packers, who were without Aaron Rodgers for most of the season.

The Redskins traded for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith in January, putting the wheels in motion for Cousins' departure.

Other teams competing for Cousins don't think they have a realistic chance at getting the quarterback, and it will come down to the contract with the Vikings, per sources.

ESPN reports that the Broncos considered Cousins and also had discussion about former Keenum teammate Teddy Bridgewater, but instead went with Keenum on what is expected to be a short-term deal, per 9News.

"Will only confirm they'll get the first visit", McCartney told the the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Cousins is coming off a 2017-18 campaign in which he threw for 4,093 yards, 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 64.3 percent of his passing attempts.

Cousins left Washington this offseason after six years with the team. After a long recovery, he returned to the field midway through the 2017 season and served as the backup for Case Keenum. The Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and New York Jets were also in the mix for Cousins' services.

There are actually reports out there that Cousins has already made his decision.

Cousins' run of production began in the 2015 season when he assumed the starting duties and proceeded to rack up 4,166 yards and 29 scores through the air. Since Favre's retirement in 2010, the Vikings have tried a bevy of quarterbacks from draft picks to free agent signings.
