She now has the offer and negotiations are underway to make it a reality.

DiCaprio will play Rick Dalton, a fictional fading Western TV star, while Pitt will play Cliff Booth, Dalton's "longtime stunt double", according to Deadline.

Robbie would be joining Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in the film, titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Tate was famously murdered by Manson's followers. However, Jennifer Lawrence was said to have previously been in talks for the role of Tate.

If it happens, this will be the first time Robbie works with the famed director. The actress is coming off her first Oscar nomination for "I, Tonya" and will hit awards season this fall in the drama "Mary Queen of Scots", in which she stars opposite Saoirse Ronan.

"There has been a lot of press that the script focuses on Charles Manson and the murder spree he orchestrated, but I'm told that is akin to calling "Inglourious Basterds" a movie about Adolf Hitler, when the Nazi leader was only in a scene or two", Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr. The movie will take place in Los Angeles in 1969, where both men lived next door to Sharon Tate and her husband Roman Polanksi.

In November, Tarantino chose Sony as the distributor for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will be released on 9 August next year, marking exactly 50 years since Tate's death. I'm very excited to tell this story of an L.A., and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are already confirmed, and if Robbie joins the killer lineup she'll be playing the role of Tate.
