It brings minor changes such as new icons, more secure parental controls, friend suggestions, and more.

Yesterday, Nintendo released a new firmware update for the Switch, bumping up the OS version to 5.0.0.

The update also gives users the ability to filter news content from specific channels or simply unread news, which should help with organizing news items, especially since they can get cluttered real fast.

As Nintendo outlines in its support page, the update adds Friend Suggestions, which makes friend suggestions based on social media accounts connected to the user's Nintendo Account.

The update brings 24 new icons for your profile picture that are based on the ARMS and the Kirby series.

Other new features include the ability for digital purchases made via PC and smartphone or tablet to begin downloading much quicker than they have in the past. The method for entering the Switch's Parental Control pin has also been changed, with the control stick now working as the default input method, rather than an on-screen keyboard. Specific games can be added to a "whitelist" as well, bypassing the restricted settings. And the Controllers menu will now show the grip colors of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

Head on over to the "Controller" tab over in the System Settings menu, hit the "Update Controllers" button, and in just a few seconds, both Joy-Con controllers will be updated to their new versions.

Given the code name Mariko, now the intentions of the SoC Revision is yet to come to light and we doubt Nintendo will ever comment on it, so we will have to wait for further news or updates on the findings, perhaps at a future show?
