All of a sudden, there will most likely be a handful of teams still in search of filling a void at receiver that will strongly consider bringing Nelson on board at the right price.

"This is a big puzzle, and there's limitations", Gutekunst said of the big-money contracts being handed out and the decision to release Nelson after 10 years in Green Bay.

"I'm told Jordy Nelson knew he was being released and that he was already targeting the Patriots as a potential suitor".

Last season, Nelson struggled compared to his full-strength contributions in recent years, finishing with 53 catches for 482 yards and six touchdowns. Cutting him frees up $10 million in cap space for the Packers. The pool just regained a bit of depth after the Green Bay Packers released wide receiver Jordy Nelson, and the Raiders need to pounce.

First-year general manager Brian Gutekunst called Nelson "one of the great Packers who played here". He even earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors after returning from a torn ACL to lead the league with 14 touchdown catches in 2016.

The question now is: what's the market like for a 32 year-old, oft-injured receiver who has seen a dramatic reduction in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns this past season?

Nelson could also slide into the vacated role left behind by Danny Amendola in New England, considering NFL Network's Dan Hellie reported he is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins. Nelson would be a quality veteran to put with Joe Flacco and a young receiver added through the draft. "In fairness to him, we won't get into those kind of discussions".

Nelson made a base salary of $8.25 million last season with the Packers, per, but could command less coming off a less productive season. And, among others receiving an astronomic dollar figure given their value, former Washington receiver Ryan Grant - yes, Ryan Grant - will reportedly receive a four-year, $29 million contract from the Baltimore Ravens. His best season might have been in 2014, when he caught 98 passes for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns.
