The Bulldogs earned a No. 1 seed for the first time and will host the opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament at Humphrey Coliseum. The Bulldogs are coming off a stunning first loss of the season when they lost to SC in the Southeastern Conference Tournament championship game just over a week ago in a 62-51 contest.

Otherwise, it's just business as usual for MSU, coming off its best regular season in program history.

State (32-1) was selected in the Kansas City Regional, which has the Bulldogs slated to go to the city in Missouri if they win the first two games.

Head Coach Vic Schaefer said, "To be able to take everybody's best punch every night, you've just got to take your hats off to them".

State opens play against 16-seed Nicholls Saturday at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

March Madness is officially underway in college hoops and the women's basketball championship run for Mississippi State will start on its home floor for the third-straight season. "We had some time off and now we'll get ready to play".

"To be the No. 1 seed is extremely special", said MSU guard Blair Schaefer. But to have an opportunity to play in front of another sold out crowd in the Hump is so fantastic. "I can't tell you how thankful I am that we have fans in Starkville that will want to come pack themselves in this place just to watch us play". The Bulldogs beat Syracuse 76-65 in Las Vegas on December 21 and Oklahoma State 79-76 in Starkville on December 3.

"I think the committee had a little fun sending us somebody that we've already played", Vic Schaefer said. This season, State set the program attendance record as 113,814 filed into the Hump this season, including an arena-record 10,794 for MSU's February 5 win against SC. The top four seeds in the Regional are No. 2 Texas, No. 3 UCLA, and No. 4 North Carolina State.

The remainder of the Kansas City Regional consists of Texas (2), UCLA (3), NC State (4), Maryland (5), Iowa (6), Arizona State (7), Nebraska (10), Creighton (11), Princeton (12), Elon (13), American (14) and ME (15).
