If Nebraska wins, Nebraska will play the victor of top-seeded Baylor against eighth-seeded Wagner in the second round.

Tyra said Wednesday morning during a segment on The Deener Show on WHBE-680 that Louisville filed paperwork to accept a spot in the NIT if the team missed the NCAA Tournament.

The Bears (18-14, 8-10) were listed as one of the NCAA Tournament committee's "First Four Out", resulting in a No. 1 seed in the NIT. That year, the Bears won the championship, defeating Iowa in the title game. The 5-9 sophomore from Barneveld, Wis., leads Nebraska in scoring (12.6 ppg), assists (4.8 apg) and steals (1.3 spg). "There's a lot of quality teams and great players in the field". The Bears had a late five game winning streak, including two wins over a top ten Kansas and Texas Tech team, but ultimately was not consistent enough to make the tournament.

"I think our team has had a really good year, especially considering our youth", Wojo said. Quick rotations are necessary against a team that has four starters shooting better than 35 percent from three. This is NU's first NIT appearance since 2011.

Not only are the Huskers not in the Big Dance, they're not even hosting a first-round NIT game.

"Any opportunity to play basketball is a blessing", Lindsey said. "We got a chance to get some more wins under our belt and just get more and more comfortable with each other and end the season on the right note so we can get ready for next year". Nothing beats a home crowd. That includes freshman guard Taylor Kissinger, who injured her arm in the final game of the regular season.

The Huskers will go on the road for the opening round of the NIT, playing at No. 4 seed Mississippi State at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Starkville.

If the Jays get by the Hawkeyes, they'll play either third-seeded UCLA or 14th-seeded American.

"If I focus on something that concerns me, that's taking away from effort and energy I need to put into this team", said Padgett, whose one-year contract for $800,000 plus incentives runs through September. The former Louisville player's season-long approach has been maintaining continuity and success for Cardinal players and the program rather than worry about his future.

The NIT is experimenting with rule changes that could be used in the future for all NCAA basketball games. These changes include: using 10-minute quarters instead of 20-minute halves, resetting the shot clock to 20 seconds after an offensive rebound as opposed to the full 30 seconds, and extending the three-point line to the distance used by FIBA for global competition.

"I want to play Northern Kentucky because that's the next game on our schedule", Padgett said.
