Will a Nightwatch movie work, and is a Spike Lee superhero movie something you're looking forward to? The Hollywood Reporter later confirmed that report, though it described Lee as "circling" the project rather than fully committed to it. Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker is reportedly scripting the film, which will be set in Sony Pictures' budding shared universe of supporting Spider-Man characters that already includes the upcoming Venom and Silver and Black films, as well as a developing Morbius, The Living Vampire project.

Spike Lee may be directing his first superhero film for Marvel Comics' Nightwatch. More on the Nightwatch movie below.

The Hashtag Show is reporting that Spike Lee has joined the project in order to direct.

Last summer, it was reported that Columbia Pictures, under Sony Pictures Entertainment, was interested in recruiting Lee.

The news seems to confirm rumours that circled previous year when Sony was reported to be developing the film as part of its sprawling Spider-Man cinematic universe. In addition to a 2019 Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, the studio also has the Tom Hardy vehicle Venom due out October 5, and Silver & Black, from director Gina Prince-Bythewood, set for February 8 2019.

Nightwatch debuted in 1993's Web of Spider-Man #97 by Terry Kavanagh, Derek Yaniger, and Alex Saviuk, and went on to have his own solo series for a short time. When he took off the costume and unmasked the corpse, he learned that it was actually an older version of himself.

Lee, the director behind Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, 25th Hour, Inside Man, and many more, is now filming the crime film Black Klansman, starring John David Washington, Adam Driver, Laura Harrier, and former Spider-Man franchise cast member Topher Grace. I want to see a Spike Lee superhero film, and I want to see it ASAP.
