This Friday, March 16, 2018 photo shows the corner parking spot where a van containing the bodies of two adults and two children was found in Garden Grove, Calif. Police in the city near Los Angeles say a woman reported Thursday night that a white Honda was emitting a very foul odor.

One woman told police that, while walking nearby, she had noticed a strong foul odor coming from the van, which was backed into a space in the northeast corner of the shopping center parking lot, he added.

Authorities initially believed both children were under the age of 4, they have now updated this to under the age of 7, NBC4 reported.

The victims did not appear to have any trauma, Whitney said. Autopsies are pending and will determine the cause of death.

The woman who made the initial report told police she had seen the white Honda van go in and out of the parking lot over the past month and thought the family might have been homeless.

Homicide detectives and investigators from the Orange County Sheriff's Department's coroner's office continue to investigate the case.
