Iowa Freshman phenom Spencer Lee finished off an unbelievable NCAA wrestling tournament, winning the 125 pound championship 5-1 over Rutgers' Nick Suriano. He'd add a second period escape and a third period take down to put the match away and end Iowa's freshman drought. Lee collected a pin late in the first period to lead 2-0.

Iowa secured third place, it's best finish since a second in 2015, during the morning session as the Hawkeyes finished with 97 points matching what it scored previous year.

A fourth-place finish by Michael Kemerer at 157, fifth-place efforts from Brandon Sorensen at 149 and Sam Stoll at 285 as well as a sixth place from Alex Marinelli at 165 provided the Hawkeyes with 7.5 points in the medal round, enough points for Iowa to assure itself of finishing in front of fourth-place MI in the team race. Penn State captured the national title ahead of runner-up Ohio State. "The last time we won was in 2010 and it doesn't feel good". He followed a 6-1 win by settling for fourth, forced to default in the third-place match after suffering a shoulder injury. Iowa scored 30.5 bonus points this week with three technical falls and six major decisions to go with the 10 falls.

"The biggest message is that I'm never going to get used to third".

Stoll, earning all-American honors for the first time, ended the season with a pin to take fifth, while Marinelli was pinned twice Saturday to finish sixth after losing in the semifinals on Friday. "We know we can do it, and next year is the year". "I have the best teammates in the world".
