"It is a completely new Atari connected device designed for today's living room", reads the press release.

There still isn't a set-in-stone launch date for the Atari VCS, but the company says that it will announce a pre-order date sometime in April 2018. You can see those in the picture below.

The original plan for the Atari VCS, which is described as a progressive silhoutte of the iconic Atari 2600 console, was to seek funding via an Indiegogo campaign, scheduled for December 14.

The company is showing off the Atari VCS, Classic Joystick, and Modern Controller prototypes to the press this week at GDC. The company said it paid careful attention to the industrial design and graphics for the box. The new gaming console from Atari is based on PC hardware - specially, an AMD APU that has integrated Radeon graphics. At this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC), the company has rebranded the console as "Atari VCS" (Video Computer System) and will make it available for playtesting along with prototypes of the Classic JoyStick and Modern Controller.

"Every person at Atari and every partner involved with the new platform is just as fanatical about the brand and its heritage as our biggest fans are, " stated COO of Connected Devices Michael Arzt, and this reflection on the history of Atari is something that's very apparent with the Atari VCS, going all the way to its wood finish design. "With the Atari VCS name, we know how important it is to get everything completely right and that's why we briefly paused an imminent launch late previous year". Perhaps $250 is the starting version and Atari will offer a number of SKUs each with different specs.but all of this totally sounds like risky business to me. "We hope that despite the delay, Atari's fans appreciate our extreme attention to detail and are as excited about the Atari VCS as we are". This approach means that as well as being a great gaming device, Ataribox is also a full PC experience for the TV, bringing you streaming, applications, social, browsing, music, and more.
