"Anthony McPartlin, 42, of Chiswick, has been charged by postal requisition on Wednesday, March 21, with drink-driving".

Ant, also 42, has returned to rehab after being arrested for drink driving on Sunday after crashing his Mini in to another auto, resulting in a 4-year-old child being taken to hospital.

Ant McPartlin was arrested by police on Sunday following a reported "drink-driving crash" that lead to a girl aged 3 visiting hospital.

He was charged today and will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on April 4.

Whilst I never thought I'd be in this position, after much discussion and careful consideration we've decided that the remaining two shows of this series of Saturday Night Takeaway will go ahead.

Ant attended Kingston police station on Wednesday to be interviewed under caution, and now the Metropolitan Police have confirmed he has been charged.

ITV added: 'ITV has taken a joint decision with Ant and Dec's team not to broadcast Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend.

This week's edition of Saturday Night Takeaway was cancelled after his arrest but ITV said that the live show would return on March 31 with only Donnelly as host.

After being arrested for drink-driving following a three-car collision in London on Sunday, it has, this evening, been confirmed that Ant McPartlin has been charged, and will appear in Wimbledon Magistrates' Court in April.

It marked the latest in a string of personal setbacks for the star, whose admission to rehab last year was followed, several months later, by the announcement that his marriage of 11 years to his wife Lisa had ended.

"If one of the duo is going through such problems - he [Ant] probably won't be back on TV this year - does Dec now just have to come off TV as well?". On Monday, after being released by police, a statement confirmed he was stepping away from TV and heading back to rehab.

He was first treated past year after struggling with an addiction to painkillers following a knee operation in 2015.

Dec is also said to be "absolutely devastated" that he won't be working with his TV presenting partner Ant for the foreseeable future. "As such, Saturday Night Takeaway will not be going ahead this Saturday".

An ITV spokesman said they were "reviewing options" for the final two episodes of the series which will go on without McPartlin.
