You may be more likely to see LED screens in brand new or revamped theaters where a new screen was always going to be in the cards.

On Tuesday, 20 March, Samsung Electronics announced it has debuted world's first 3D Cinema LED screen at Arena Cinemas' Sihlcity theater in Switzerland, as part of its "efforts to make traditional, projection-based cinema technology a thing of the past".

Samsung's Cinema LED screen delivers exceptional visual quality, technical performance and reliability stretching almost 10.3m (33.8ft) wide and 5.4m (17.7ft) in height, and featuring almost 9 million pixels.

When displaying 3D video, the Cinema LED screen also maintains the 2D-level of brightness, reduces the dizzying effects and improves viewing angles.

The 3D Cinema Screen uses direct-lit LED technology to produce a 34-foot 4K (4,096 x 2,160) resolution image with High Dynamic Range (HDR) support, a almost infinity:1 contrast ratio, highly accurate color, and non-distorted visuals. The resulting high contrast showcases bright colors, pristine whites and deep blacks, making it flawless for both 2D and 3D movies.

The Samsung Cinema LED display amplifies on-screen content through HDR picture quality. The 34-foot display has been created to offer a superior 3D experience over traditional projector systems.

First introduced in July 2017, Samsung's Cinema LED screen has been successfully installed in theaters in Seoul and Busan, Korea and Shanghai, China.

The Arena Cinemas partnership marks the first implementation of Samsung's Cinema LED display in Europe and is the world's first 3D Cinema LED screen.
