China promised retaliatory action against Trump's trade duties

USA electric carmaker Tesla Inc is in long-running talks with Shanghai authorities to build a local manufacturing plant in the city, while Chinese state media have called for measures against US soybean imports to China.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Alex Wong is now visiting the island and will speak at a business dinner alongside Taiwanese President Tsai later on 21 March.

JustXiait, a team of Chinese parody bloggers famous for satirical dubbed-over videos from movies, said in an official microblog post that the group would voluntarily delete all videos "to conduct self-inspection, cleanup and improvement". During that time, the Trump administration hopes China will make concessions to avoid a substantial cutoff in trade. "No one should be surprised", Bonnie Glaser, director of the China Power Project at Center for global and Strategic Studies, told VOA on Monday.

Taiwan's Defence Minister Yeh De-fa said: 'We are monitoring the whole process of the Liaoning's cross-region drill'.

He also mentioned the signing of the Taiwan Travel Act on March 16 as an example of how the Trump Administration was starting to adapt its Taiwan policy, the Liberty Times reported.

An irked Beijing has called on Washington to "correct its mistake". The law allows Lighthizer, at the president's discretion, to take broad steps, including tariffs, to correct against any harm against USA businesses.

Beijing reacted angrily to President Donald Trump's announcement of tariffs on as much as $60 billion of Chinese products.

Foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Saturday: "We urge the USA side to correct its mistake, stop pursuing any official ties with Taiwan or improving its current relations with Taiwan in any substantive way".

China accused the United States of "repeatedly abusing" worldwide trade rules, as Beijing braced on Thursday for an imminent announcement from U.S.

Interviewed on a Taiwan radio talk show Friday morning, Easton said that past USA policies were wrong, and that the administration of President Donald Trump was reacting to China's aggressiveness, not to seek conflict, but to maintain the status quo, as well as an equilibrium in relations.

During his half-hour closing speech, President Xi was heavy on aspirational themes and he delivered a strong message on Taiwan, which is claimed by China as part of its territory.
