Foundation laid for Rs 1600 cr Hero MotoCorp factory in AP

While all the major Original Equipment Manufacturers have their presence in Southern India, Hero MotorCorp on Friday made its maiden foray into the south, laying the foundation stone for a Rs 1,600 crore manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh.

The project, which is coming up in a backward area of the State, is expected to generate 12,000 jobs, including 2,000 directly.

The company now has five plants in India and one each in Colombia and Bangladesh.

PawanMunjal, Chairman, Managing Director & CEO, Hero MotoCorp, along with the Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone of the new facility in Sri City during a ceremony.

The combined installed production capacity of the company is now 9.2 million units per annum, the highest in the country.

Hero motors will be established for production of 5 lakh motor cycles by 2019 December. The facility will provide direct employment to 2,000 people, while it is expected to add another 10,000 jobs through creation of manufacturing ecosystem of vendors and suppliers in the region.

Hero motors production will be doubled after the completion of the second unit in 2020.Production of motor vehicles will be further up to 18 lakh motor cycles by the year 2025.The total investment by the Hero motors company will be Rs 3,200 crore for the motor cycle manufacturing unit in AP.

Munjal added that given the strategic location of the plant, the new factory can also be developed as a key hub for exports.

The combined installed production capacity of the Company is now 9.2 million units per annum, which is highest in the country. With the additional capacity of this plant, Hero's combined annual production capacity will reach 11 million units. Its Gujarat unit will also see some capacity addition.
