A Delhi court has convicted a man, who claimed to cure backaches through witchcraft, of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on the pretext of treating her ailment.

According to Harris County court records, Michael Andrew Gray, who lives in Tennessee, assaulted the girl when staying with family at a Baytown home for several months.

Daily Herald reports the incident happened April 3.

The man sent the girl's mother out of his house to get lemons for treatment, after which he sexually assaulted her, it alleged, adding the child immediately ran out of the house and informed her mother.

During a medical exam, the victim told authorities it "hurt very bad" when Gray was assaulting her and that he tried to get her to touch his private parts.

The minor stated her mother had taken her to the convict's house for treatment of her backache through witchcraft. "When she resisted, he beat her up and threatened to kill her", said DCP MN Tiwari.

A warrant for Gray's arrest was issued on March 15, 2018.

Bond has been set at $27,000 for sexual assault and kidnapping.
