On Saturday, April 14, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office to investigate an officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of Jessie Thedford, age 32.

The shooting occurred near North 15th Avenue and West Thomas Road.

It all apparently started when police responded to a vehicle accident. A second deputy arrived on scene and Thedford was searched and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine was discovered on him.

No officers were injured during the incident. "There was a short volley of gunfire between the officers to the suspect".

Police Lt. Mark Tovar Sr. said the shooting occurred early Saturday after a lengthy pursuit and an unsuccessful carjacking attempt.

Officers determined the suspect was not moving.

Police pulled back and returned fire where the suspect was pronounced dead.
