Politicians and Government Officials Condemn Attack on Justice Ijaz's House

The residence of Pakistani judge Ijaz ul-Ahsan, a Supreme Court justice who is monitoring the corruption cases against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, came under firing by unknown gunmen on Sunday, triggering widespread condemnation in the country.

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Chaudry Saqib Nisar, personally visited Justice Ijaz's house after hearing the news.

These occurred at different times, one occurring at late night Saturday when unidentified assailants fired shots at the Supreme Court Justice's house and after a few hours very early Sunday morning, more shots were fired at the same house by unidentified assailants.

Moreover, Punjab government has formed a Joint Investigation Team to probe the incident.

The resolution, tabled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), demanded the concerned authorities to provide foolproof security to the judges to avoid such incidents in the future. The investigation will be headed by DIG Investigation Sultan Chaudhry.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto and the Supreme Court Bar Association and Lahore High Court Bar Association all condemned the incident.
