Sony announces 2018 headphone and speaker lineup, debuts truly wireless headphones

As the market is moving towards wireless headphones, Sony is embracing the phenomenon head-on with six new wireless headphones and three Bluetooth speakers. With smartphone makers ditching the proprietary 3.5mm headphone jack, it has become clear that truly wireless headphones are the way forward for the industry as well as consumers.

The headphone also supports an Ambient Sound mode where users can hear what's happening in their ambient environment.

Sony's extra bass series headphones has been refreshed with three devices - SRS-XB41, SRS-XB31 and SRS-XB21. They have a battery life of 3 hours and also come with an open charging case which extends the battery backup up to 9 hours.

In the same series, there is the WI-SP600N and the SP500, which have a neckband design with an inbuilt microphone.

The key product is the WF-SP700N, Sony's truly wireless digital noise cancelling headphones. They offer a claimed battery life of up to eight hours and support NFC and Bluetooth 4.2. Both the headphones offer up to 20 hours of backup while the WH-CH300 with a neckband design promises eight hours of battery life.

In a released statement, Sony says these headphones will be optimized for Google Assistant with an update. After the update, those using these headphones can ask questions and get things done. With the launch of WF-SP700N, WI-SP600N, WI-SP500, WI-C300, WH-CH400 and WH-CH500, Sony is ramping up its audio offerings in the country. All the new headphones support Google Assistant/Siri, feature NFC and have have Bluetooth connectivity. The three headphone models will be available from 15 May.

The headphone lineup consists of six products - WF-SP700N, WI-SP600N, WI-SP500, WI-C300, WH-CH400 and WH-CH500. Sony SRS-XB41 will be available at Rs 13,990, SRS-XB31 at Rs 9,990 and SRS-XB21 at Rs 7,990. These speakers are equipped with multi-colour line lights and focus on bass-heavy music and their "Party Booster" mode is said to enhance the beats by detecting tapping from 5 different directions curtesy its built-in accelerometer that generates a sound and lighting reaction. They are also waterproof and dust proof with an IP67 rating.
