Law enforcement agencies descended on the Gupta family compound in Saxonwold, Johannesburg, on Monday.

However, according to the spokesperson for the Hawks, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) executed an order on their home in the afternoon, 16 April.

A reporter on the scene in Saxonwold said private security at the compound initially refused to let the authorities in, but they later relented.

Eyewitness News reported that after the plane had landed, police and customs officers were seen boarding it, spending several minutes inside and then disembarking. It was handed over for storage to Execujet, a maintenance company contracted by Export Development Canada (EDC), pending the outcome of legal proceedings in SA and the UK.

Why has the Gupta house been raided?

They confirmed that more than R250 million's worth of property and possessions were being targeted for seizure by the AFU, following the Estina Dairy Farm scandal.

"Amongst the assets forming part of the restraint order, include the following; immovable property (residential and business premises and farms), two aircrafts, a helicopter, vehicles and bank accounts belonging to certain entities, namely, Oakbay Investments, (Pty) Ltd, Islandsite Investments 180, Confidents Concept (Pty) Ltd, Sahara Computer (Pty) Ltd and Westdawn Investments and Aerohaven Trading".
