"CSK will be asked to move their home matches to Pune as Chennai Police have expressed their inability to provide adequate security for the remaining matches", he said.

According to IPL sources, Visakhapatnam is front-runner from among the four cities, the other three being Trivandrum, Pune and Rajkot. In the meantime, we can decide upon a substitute venue.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will now be held in Pune's Maharashtra Cricket Association's International Stadium, media reported on Thursday. There is a possibility that our next home match on April 20 against Rajasthan Royals will be an away match in Jaipur. "As of now, the alternative venue has not been finalised".

Shukla had also spoken to the Union Home Secretary on Tuesday, seeking government intervention in smooth conduct of IPL matches in Chennai.

"We have to keep in mind the prevailing political and security situation in the State". He said, "If the matches are not stopped, the CSK team should wear black bands". But we have told the CSK franchisee to evaluate the current situation and take a final call in this regard. "It will be CSK's decision", Rai, a former Comptroller and Auditor General, said.

There were already calls by various groups not to host cricket matches in Chennai when the state was facing such a grave situation. Following the incident, police arrested two persons for throwing a shoe on the field.

Even Superstar Rajinikanth made his views public on the issue.

The reason for the attack and the identity of the assailants were not known, though they were believed to be cadre of a pro-Tamil outfit.
