With two down in the top of the first inning against the Mets, Harper took the first pitch of the at-bat and sent it into the stands.

Bryce Harper smacked a home run Monday despite breaking his bat in half in the process.

Harper is now up to eight home runs this season, which means nearly any time he touches the ball it goes over the fence.

NEW YORK (AP) - This was shear power by Bryce Harper.

Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) announcers Bob Carpenter and F.P. Santangelo were amazed that Harper was able to hit a homer with just a few inches of the bat left in his hands.

Harper shattered his bat in two, and the ball still cleared the right-field wall with plenty of room to spare.

I've never seen a broken bat home run quite like this before though.

Coming into Monday night, the Washington outfielder and former MVP was batting an even.300 with seven homers, 14 RBI and and OPS of 1.219.
