Eddie Howe keen for further Bournemouth progress

Eddie Howe says Bournemouth remain motivated to improve on their Premier League points tally from last season but admits he is frustrated by their recent run.

Bournemouth's 3-0 defeat at Liverpool last weekend came after draws against Crystal Palace and Watford, leaving the Cherries 11th in the standings with 38 points, eight short of the 46 they managed last season.

They can yet set a new club record for the third successive year, and Howe said: "After the West Brom game everyone had us down as safe, in the media, and no matter how much I bang on to the players about certain things, that will seep into the subconscious".

"We are in exactly the same position as were this time past year, we finished really strongly last season so the challenge is there for us to do that again".

"We've got four games to do that, starting against Manchester United".

United manager Jose Mourinho may well make some changes for the trip in preparation for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.

Howe expects his players to show defensive resolve.

"One or two disappointing results and you can tumble down the league; from our perspective we've been consistent in our league position for a while, due to our form and being hard to beat, we've been picking up points all the way through, and we don't want to lose that position".

"We've been picking up points all the way through, and we don't want to lose that position".

But it would be hugely demoralising, particularly for Red Devils fans, were United to take their foot off the gas and simply coast to the finish line this season.
