Dent is a moderate Republican who represents a swing district that is set to be withdrawn pursuant to a Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision.

Republican Rep. Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania says he'll resign from Congress in the coming weeks, after the leader of an influential caucus of GOP moderates announced a year ago that he wouldn't seek re-election. Serving the people of #PA15 has been a tremendous responsibility & the privilege of a lifetime. Actively engaging in the legislative and political process presents challenges, and in so doing, I believe I have had a positive impact on people's lives and made a difference in Congress.

"I am especially proud of the work I have done to give voice to the sensible center in our country that is often overlooked or ignored", he said. At the same time, he said he was going to continue "aggressively advocate for responsible governance and pragmatic solutions in the coming years".

Republican Congressman Charlie Dent (PA-15) announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he is stepping down from Congress within the next couple of weeks. While we do not agree on everything, Charlie has always been approachable, and he has always put his constituents above partisan politics.
