Officers were called to the Romsey Conservative Club, which is the office for Caroline Nokes, alongside fire crews and paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service.

A letter containing a suspicious substance sent to the constituency office of the immigration minister Caroline Nokes was not found to pose any risk, police said.

"Officers are now at the scene with colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service to deal with this incident".

'An address has been evacuated as a precaution. Romsey Town Council confirmed that an incident was taking place involving all "blue light services".

On Monday, Nokes seemed to suggest that some of those who arrived in the United Kingdom decades ago as children may already have been deported in error.

This is a developing story, more to follow.

Ms Nokes appeared to confirm British citizens may already have been deported and said: "And I'm very conscious that it's very much in error and that's an error I want to put right".
