While the 20th year coach acknowledges some question marks, the team started practice with the leadership and poise you'd expect from that experience. "And that goes a long way in whatever sport you're playing". "This year we actually hadn't stepped foot on a field or our (football/soccer) turf, so we had no idea what we were going to see defensively".

"It's about mental health wellness, community development and getting players to come down and get fit and make friends, for both men and women". He said his new job will allow him to remain in the area but that he could go somewhere else in the future. "He's looking pretty solid this year".

"It sort of felt like we were left out a little bit".

"I think the Good Lord puts you in places for a reason", said Pickle, who will be at school until the end of the school year.

Quincy senior Anna Hollister is chosen as one of 24 players selected for the basketball honors team that will play in the 2018 Phil Bryant Northern Section All Star basketball game in Chico on April 8. Steven Rowland, Mitchell Gregor, Kalib Pierce are all juniors; Jordan Grinols and Daniel Young are set to play as sophomores and Wyatt Chudy and Clayton Rowland as freshmen. He returns as one of the top point scorers from the boys team that finished third previous year in the conference standings.

The Montabella girls have had a great run in the Mid State Athletic Conference (MSAC) in recent years, as they've won the league title six out of the last nine seasons.

"It's the right fit for me because it offers a ideal balance between a great academic school and a strong football program", said Keezer. "It's tough to say". We did really well this year. "I remember the first week or two of previous springs having games postponed, but looking ahead and thinking an entire month of spring sports may be canceled due to the weather, that's something I don't ever remember happening, but it might be where we're headed".

Baseball and softball teams also are forced to play the waiting game.

The Eagles look to compete in the CCAA II East division against likely favorites Franklinville and North Collins, who boast strong pitching staffs, along with Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Frewsburg and Pine Valley.

"I told him I was a hockey kid, but he convinced me to give football a try - so I pursued it", said Keezer. Until then the Wildcats are staying focused on what they can control until they can get outside to work on other aspects of the game. But are they beatable?

Other major point scorers for the boys returning are thrower and pole vaulter Wyatt Sackett, sprinter Mason Renne, hurdler Lucas Lippert and long jumper Connor Riley. The kids know how to win, they know what it takes, whether we can perform and do it is another thing. "I hope we can get out there soon, but in the meantime we just have to do our best with what we have".

Ultimately, baseball can come down to pitching. She said she hopes for the new coach to be personal as well to understand each team member and to maintain a "quality over quantity" mentality like Rae did.

"Typically we are able to get outside before we go down", Kagelmacher said.
