Reliance Jio's entry stormed the telecom industry and the telco has managed to garner the subscriber base of 160 million. The company has also cleared its stance that it is working in this direction.

It said the revenue is expected to fall by up to 40 per cent due to "heightened competitive intensity", and added that factors like pullout of Reliance Communication from 2G services and efforts by the incumbents to retain high data users will be impacting revenue growth. However, it is still unclear if JioHome TV service will replace the long-rumored Jio set-top box or will launch as a separate new service.

Reliance Jio may be gearing to launch new service called Jio Home TV, which could turn out to be next market disrupter after the telecom operator took on some dominant telecom players with its VoLTE-enabled mobile network. However, recent reports have revealed that the Jio DTV service has been cancelled by the company. The plan is also listed in the MyJio app under the JioTV segment. The service will offer users 200 SD and HD channels with prices starting from Rs. 400. The telecom operator will be using eMBMS or Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service to provide the service for its customers. The eMBMS is a hybrid technology that works on one-to-one system of architecture used by telcos instead of the one-to-many system that's used by TV and radio channels. Recently, a JioBroadcast app was also spotted on the Google Play Store. The report claims that Jio might make the JioBroadcast service live and the JioHomeTV could be the rebranded version of the JioBroadcast service. Last month, it was reported that Reliance JioPhone will soon be able to support WhatsApp. In an official blog post WaBetaInfo wrote, "Important references about the development of a new native KaiOS app had been found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38, indicating the presence of a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp servers".
