"Russia severely condemns the attack on Syria where Russian military are helping the lawful government in the fight with terrorism", the Kremlin said in a statement, its first reaction to the strikes.

Lebanese media outlets associated with Hezbollah said that the explosions were the result of an "internal accident", and that no one had been killed, as personnel had been evacuated in anticipation of an attack by Western powers on Syrian military targets - an attack that materialized earlier Saturday morning, when over 100 missiles were fired at targets in Syria by U.S., British and French forces.

"Without the sanction of the UN Security Council, in breach of the UN charter and the norms and principles of global law, an act of aggression was committed against a sovereign state", the Kremlin said.

An Israeli defense official confirmed that it was the Israeli Air Force that struck the T-4 air base in Homs, Syria, last week, The New York Times reported on Monday.

Berman, they added, "can prevent further disparity in Mr. Atilla's treatment" by taking into account the leniency afforded those banks and their employees, both U.S. and non-US citizens, who violated sanctions.

The strikes were targeted to inflict maximum damage on sites linked to chemical weapons development.

Putin said Russian investigators have found no evidence of a chemical attack in Douma. Moscow condemned the Western states for refusing to wait for OPCW's findings before attacking.

In a televised speech from the White House, Trump said "To Iran, and to Russian Federation, I ask: What kind of a nation wants to be associated with the mass murder of innocent men, women and children?"

"This is not about regime change". In 2015, Russia, too, entered the conflict on the side of the regime.

Within 90 minutes, the Russian ambassador to the USA warned of "consequences" for the allied attacks.

Haley said that the United States would not pull its troops out of Syria until its goals were accomplished.

Netanyahu said that it should be "clear to President Assad that "his reckless efforts to acquire and use weapons of mass destruction, his wanton disregard for worldwide law and his provision of a forward base for Iran and its proxies endanger Syria".

Iran's leaders vowed retaliation for the attack, but did nothing; they understand very well that the situation in Syria could become even uglier, and they would pay a heavy price.
