National carrier Air India has introduced seat-selection fees for most rows on domestic and worldwide flights, where you will need to shell out more for the preferred seats.

Want to sit with your family or friends on the flight together, then, in that case, be ready to pay more as national carrier Air India will now be charging more for seat selection. With the newly imposed middle seat selection fee or "family fee" - as termed in certain countries - the ailing airline hopes to earn a bit more from ticket margins and match global standards. The move by Air India is more in line with the practice by airline companies introducing extra fee or charge on seats of passengers choice. According to circular issued, Air India listed the seat-selection fee on various routes. On worldwide flights, the fee has been fixed at INR 200 on most routes, except on Kathmandu flights, where the fee is INR 100.

According to new rules, the fare for middle seats on domestic flights starts at Rs 100 and if chooses window or aisle seat then he or she has to Rs 200. However, it should be noted that the emergency exit row fee for the same is Rs 800-Rs1,500 depending on the route.

A couple traveling when with their children say, a JFK/NewYork-Mumbai flight can be forced to shell out $33 that is yet to be seated on the same row anyway. Rs 240 to Rs 1500 is what one has to shell out for the window or aisle seats.

Vistara is now going to be the best airline for passengers traveling with kids and due to the and the fee is only for the middle seats situated in the emergency exit row due to this will arrive with extra leg room also.
