Perhaps Jaguar are hoping that some minor titivates for the 2019 MY will help fix that, so they've headlined the (very modest) updates with the launch of special edition 300 SPORT models for the XE, XF and XF Sportbrake to help further.

The XE 300 Sport, priced at £45,640, is exclusively powered by a turbocharged 2-litre four-cylinder engine which pumps out 296bhp and 295lb ft of torque. Unlike the XE S which features rear-wheel drive, grunt from the four-cylinder is funneled to all four wheels, allowing the sedan to reach 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) in 5.4 seconds. Satin grey exterior trim, 300 Sport badging and bespoke alloy wheels complete the 300 Sport ensemble. Additionally, the auto is offered with model-exclusive 19- and 20-inch wheels. Customers can choose from three exterior colours: Yulong White, Indus Silver and Santorini Black, while the XE is also available in Caldera Red. Other modifications include branded treadplates, chrome switches, bright metal pedals, sport carpet mats, badged steering wheel and embossed headrests. All models come with Jaguar's Touch Pro 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard.

Like the rest of petrol XE range, it features a new particulate filter that can capture ultra-fine particles and oxidise them into CO2.

The performance-inspired 300 Sport trim is also available on the XF and XF Sportbrake, which can be order with the 295bhp 3.0-litre diesel V6.

The new Jaguar XE 300 Sport has set a unique lap record at the world's longest artificial outdoor ice circuit at Flevonice in the Netherlands.

Available to order now from Jaguar's United Kingdom dealers, the XE 300 SPORT starts at £44,755 and the XE 300 SPORT from £46,330.

Jaguar's chief engineer, Mike Cross, said: "Ice is one of the most demanding surfaces for any vehicle to contend with, and this race demonstrated the XE's all-surface capability and unrivalled handling in adverse conditions".
