49ers schedule: Prime-time path set for 2018 contenders

The season opens on September 6 as the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons.

The complete 2018 National Football League schedule will be released at 5 p.m. tonight, but Matt Maiocco and Scott Blair of NBC Sports Bay Area already have a little tidbit for fans. Monday night games will move up 15 minutes to a 5:15 p.m. PDT start.

- Of the seven teams with a new coach, five are on the 49ers' home schedule: the Raiders, the Arizona Cardinals, the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions and the New York Giants.

While we've known who the 49ers' 2018 opponents will be since late a year ago, we now know the exact road the Niners will need to take in order to return to the playoffs next season.

The Raiders will make their first visit to Levi's Stadium to play the 49ers this upcoming season - and do so in prime time.

September 23, at Kansas City Chiefs (10 a.m., FOX): Patrick Mahomes, Alex Smith's replacement, has the arm strength to really test the 49ers' secondary.

Week 8 - Sunday, October 28 @ Arizona Cardinals at 1:25 p.m.

The 49ers have hosted a Thursday night game for five consecutive seasons. The last time the 49ers hosted the Raiders resulted in a 17-9 San Francisco win at Candlestick Park on October 17, 2010.

November 12, vs. New York Giants (5:20 p.m., ESPN): The 49ers snapped their 0-9 start.and beat the Giants 31-21 last November 12 at Levi's Stadium. It's one of four prime-time games scheduled for the Raiders and new head coach Jon Gruden in 2018, all four of which are in the Bay Area. Prior to that loss, the 49ers had won the previous three matchups.

Week 14 - Sunday, December 9 vs. Denver Broncos at 1:05 p.m.
