The 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards were notable for a number of reasons. Prior to performing, she warned fans that she might look "a bit different" after a "hard fall" at her home resulted in over 40 stitches to her face, along with surgery.

But that wasn't even the best news of the night for Chris.

Reba McEntire was the host of the 2018 ACM Awards, and we knew nearly from the moment that she came out on stage that there was potential for there to be some good comedy.

Lambert is the current record holder for most consecutive wins for female vocalist of the year; this year her competition in the category includes Carrie Underwood, McEntire, Maren Morris and Kelsea Ballerini.

Lambert also won ACM Song of the Year for "Tin Man" along with co-writers Jack Ingram and Jon Randall, receiving two awards, both as artist and songwriter.

Sunday's show was country music's return to Las Vegas after the October 1 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

"My wife, I love you".

"For those of us that have experienced tragedy and unexpected loss, music helps us remember what really matters in life", Bryan said.

Carrie Underwood is getting ready for the ACM Awards!

While Underwood looked flawless onstage in a black and silver fringe dress, her vocals clearly dominated the moment as she belted out her new single, "Cry Pretty". In a post to members of her fan club, she described the extent of her injuries: "In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well". Since this particular award ceremony is likely a comfortable and happy place for Underwood (she's won nine awards in prior years) it's a great place for her to step back into the spotlight.

Old Dominion pulled off a major upset, beating out Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town for Vocal Duo of the Year.

Kenny Chesney delivered the first performance, singing his new song "Get Along". It ties Leroy Van Dyke's "Walk On By" as the third longest-running song of all-time on the chart. In fact, they toured together in 2008, and had a hit duet version of Clarkson's "Because of You". With Stapleton, Luke Bryan, and others in the running for entertainer of the year, the show-closing prize went to Jason Aldean, recognizing the dominance of his recent singles and his They Don't Know tour.
