Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde reacts during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 Second Leg match FC Barcelona and Chelsea FC at Camp Nou on March 14, 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

The Catalan side took a three-goal advantage to the Stadio Olimpico for their European quarter-final, though somehow conspired to throw away their lead as Roma pulled off one of the greatest comebacks on record.

And the players say the coach should take responsibility for the defeat following his inability to prepare them for their opponent's physicality.

Goals Edin Dzeko, Daniele De Rossi and Konstantinos Manolas ended the Blaugrana's dream of winning a treble this season, as they reach the last four stage in the tourney for the first time in their career.

It was made clear to Valverde how disappointed the players were with his approach to the game.

After the game, one Barcelona player according to Spanish newspaper, Sport, told the manager the game was extremely physical and was supposed to have featured those players that could absorb the pressure.

Every player in the Barca side which started Tuesday night's game had been bought by the club from elsewhere and while it's true Denis Suarez did have a short spell in the famous "la Masia" but he is not ultimately a product of that famous system.

The squad like Valverde as a man and a coach, but many senior players believe he's getting it wrong for certain games.

They are yet to lose in La Liga this season - and have gone 40 league matches unbeaten - and could become the first invincible side in Spanish league history.

His next opportunity is the Copa del Rey final on Saturday at the Wanda Metropilitano, and Valverde must prove he can rise to the occasion.

Losing to the Italian side has placed a dent on Barca's reputation this season as they are yet to lose a single game in the domestic league.
