Beşiktaş coach Şenol Güneş suffered a head injury from an object thrown by Fenerbahçe fans during a brawl that caused the Turkish Cup semi-final second leg match to be suspended Thursday in Istanbul.

Gunes was helped to his feet and taken down the tunnel of the Sukru Saracoglu stadium to receive treatment.

Turkish television pictures showed a baffled Gunes clutching his head in pain before falling to the turf after being hit by the projectile.

He fell to the ground, a Reuters witness said, and local media reported that he received five stitches to his head and was taken to the hospital.

The Istanbul derby match at Fenerbahce had been briefly halted several times before the incident occurred in the 58th minute of the goalless second leg. The match is likely to be replayed, with the Turkish Football Federation set to make a decision in the coming days.

Besiktas' coach Senol Gunes was floored by an object from the crowd in the clash with Fenerbahce.

One of the great purveyors of shithousing in world football, Portuguese hardman Pepe was at it again on Thursday with Besiktas, sent off after a shocking challenge.
